Registration and Sponsorships are now closed for the 2024-2025 season!
It is the goal of the Keller Varsity Bass Team and the Texas High School Bass Association to provide an opportunity for high school students to compete in organized tournaments while establishing strict guidelines and academic standards that will allow our student anglers to excel in the classroom,
on the lake, and future endeavors.
THE KVBT competes in the Metroplex Division of the THSBA.
The THSBA puts on five “divisional” events each season. At each of these tournaments, the 1 or 2-man (or woman) teams accumulate “THSBA Angler of the Year,” (A.O.Y.) points for their order of finish based on weight of fish caught (up to 5 allowed). At the end of the regular season, teams in each division that have accumulated the most A.O.Y. points will advance to the THSBA Regional Championship. At Regionals, the top 1/3 of the teams advance on to compete in the THSBA State Championship. In past seasons, there were around $80,000 in prizes and scholarships awarded at the THSBA State Championship.
Division High Schools compete against one another for trophies and prizes at each tournament. Anglers also compete individually for Big Bass scholarships and prizes. The Keller Varsity Bass Team has won State in our Division three times and have been in the top 10 yearly.
Scholarships are awarded at all THSBA tournaments. The amounts vary at each tournament with a guaranteed $3000 shared by top anglers at every regular season event. At KVBT meetings, events and tournaments, there are also opportunities to win great prizes like Academy gift cards, rods, reels, sunglasses, bait, tackle and more
(thanks to the generous donations of our sponsors)!

The Keller Varsity Bass Team is a high school fishing team associated with the Texas High School Bass Association (THSBA). Our team fishes against dozens of other high school teams in our division. We compete for scholarship awards, prizes, and the coveted Team of the Year trophy that is awarded at the end of the regular season. Keller Varsity Bass Team is comprised of students from Keller ISD, Birdville ISD and Carroll ISD.
High school students in 9-12 grade in Keller ISD may participate. You must also register with the THSBA. If your school does not field a team in the THSBA, you may be able to compete with us as we do have anglers from Carroll ISD, Birdville ISD, and other nearby districts. While we do not fall under UIL, we do follows rules for behavior and grade standards.
Anglers have a $500 fee that must be paid to be part of the team. This covers all tournament fees and jersey. Angler fees can be paid in full or by installments. The first $250.00 of the fee is due by specific date (usually June) and the second $250.00 is due on a later date (usually end of July)(these dates may vary for each year and will be announced by Team Coach each spring/summer).
Anglers may choose to have some or all of their fees covered by an individual or corporate sponsor. These sponsors will have advertising opportunities with their logos placed on our website, jersey and banner (size and placement depend on donation amount).
If anglers are being sponsored by an individual or business these sponsorships are also due by the registration fees deadlines to ensure logo placement on team banner and/or jersey.
Your sponsorship can come from a company or an individual. Some anglers even choose to pay the sponsorship out-of-pocket versus asking local businesses for sponsorship.
Checks can be made payable to "Keller Varsity Bass Team" or you can pay by PayPal, credit or debit card via the link below.
Anglers will need to request a logo from their sponsor(s). Past sponsors may need to provide a new logo if the design has changed. Logos are best in vector format, but bitmap (png, etc) are acceptable if they are at least 600dpi and large format. Please email logo files to kellerbassclub@gmail.com. **Logos provided after July 31st may not be on logos or banner as they are printed in August for tournaments starting in September.**
YES! We are a 501(c)(3) organization. We can provide a document of receipt upon payment.
No. We don’t offer refunds of sponsorship. A large portion of our expenses occur at the beginning of the season (membership dues, jerseys, and our banner), and we spend the money as soon as it comes in.
We cannot extend the due dates for sponsorships. We have to pay THSBA and other fees during the summer. We also have to order jerseys for everyone, as well as, our banner. We don’t operate with monetary surpluses, so we require everyone (anglers and sponsors) to meet the deadlines.
We use sponsorship funds for the following expenses.
• Membership in the THSBA
• Membership in the Association of School Booster Clubs (For our 501(c)(3)
• Tournament entry fees
• Tournament awards for top-finishers
• Jerseys for anglers and boat captains
• Team banner
• Expenses for our end-of-year banquet
• Miscellaneous expenses
We prefer that the angler talk to the sponsor and answer any questions. We strongly believe that talking to potential sponsors and answering their questions builds character and skills that greatly benefit our anglers. It’s part of the learning experience that our team offers. If you don’t know the answer to any questions a sponsor might have, feel free to let them know you’ll find out and get back to them. You can then ask the Board President to clarify and then you can provide the sponsor with the information they needed.
No. You either need to have your own or partner with a team member that has a boat and someone willing to volunteer as Boat Captain. All tournaments require that fishing takes place on a boat. Boats must be a minimum of 16’ in length and propeller driven. They must have a working live well. The horsepower of the motor must not exceed the horsepower rating of the boat. Life jackets, fire extinguisher, current registration, working kill switch, functional navigational lights, throw cushion, and minimum of $300K liability insurance is required.
In some instances, volunteers will provide their boat and serve as Boat Captain for anglers without boats- but this is not guaranteed. If you do not have a boat, but want to join the team, please contact us to discuss further at kellerbassteam@gmail.com
THSBA tournaments require an adult to "Captain" a student team. Typically, the Captain pilots the boat but does not fish, is responsible for the safety of the competing students, must undergo a background check, and are subject to polygraph tests at events to ensure integrity of tournament. Boat Captains will also need to take Safe Sport Training. For more information you can go to THSBA.net.
No. You must provide your own rods and reels, tackle and equipment. **NO LIVE BAIT** We provide team jerseys that need to be worn during tournaments. We fish in all kinds of weather, so you need to be prepared with sunscreen, lip balm, rain gear, etc. You will also be on a boat for long hours during competition and will need to provide your own drinks and snacks. We usually provide food like hot dogs, burgers, chips, and drinks at our tent in the weigh-in area.
THSBA allows only the catching of large-mouth, small-mouth and spotted bass. Only 5 fish per team can be weighed in.
Your success is determined by the time and effort you put in to studying the craft of bass fishing. The THSBA puts on 5 tournaments a year. We typically have one team meeting prior to each tournament. Tournaments typically begin with lines-in around 6:00a and must be off the water by 3p. Weigh-ins follow shortly thereafter. While we do not have mandatory practices, there are opportunities to pre-fish tournament lakes. **Times/dates for pre-fish and tournament start times determined by THSBA.**
