About Us

Keller Varsity Bass Team (KVBT) is a team of high school student anglers who share a passion for fishing

and desire to compete in organized fishing tournaments. We are a member of the Texas High School

Bass Association  (THSBA), whose goal is to provide a venue where high school students have the

opportunity to compete in organized tournaments while following strict guidelines and academic

standards that will allow student anglers to excel in the classroom and on the lake.

KVBT consists of anglers are from the four high schools in the Keller Independent School District (KISD).

Keller High School

Central High School

Fossil Ridge High School

Timber Creek High School.

We also have anglers from other area high schools who don’t offer a bass fishing team or club.

KVBT competes in the MetroPlex Division of THSBA and fishes 5 regular season tournaments throughout

the year at area lakes. Within KVBT, solo or two-angler teams can bring a maximum of 5 fish that meet

the length requirements to the weigh-in location where they are officially weighed on the THSBA stage;

like many of the professional tournaments. Top anglers can win scholarship money from the THSBA for

post high school education and well as other awards such as certificates, fishing equipment, etc.

While our angler teams compete against each other, KVBT also competes against other school teams in

our division. The top angler teams of each team/school are combined for an overall team tournament

champion and KVBT has frequently finished in the top 5. In addition, KVBT was crowned the season’s

Divisional Champion for the 2016/2017, 2017/2018, and 2022/2023 seasons.

Based on their results during the regular season, angler teams may qualify for a Regional Tournament

with the possibility of qualifying for the Texas State Tournament.

In addition to fishing tournaments, our anglers have an opportunity to give back through several

community events and earn volunteer hours for school programs. Our team volunteers at the Keller

Park and Recreation Fish-for-Fun events typically held in January and July. Anglers help families with

children up to 16 years of age with setting up fishing rods, tying fishing line and properly bait hooks. We

believe these events instill a sense of community responsibility in our anglers and are an important facet

to our sport.
